Japan firm offers fire solutions

Dubai, February 15, 2009

Nohmi of Japan recently launched fire suppression and prevention technology and an eco-friendly and cost effective way of cooling outdoor areas in Dubai.

The two products were launched during the inauguration of the regional office of Nohmi Middle East at Dubai Airport Free Zone (DAFZ).

“We in Dubai Airport Free Zone give considerable importance to safety and fire protection issues and hence encourage companies operating in this area,” said Nasser Madani, assistant director general of DAFZ. “We have over 12 years experience in dealing with major international conglomerates, we have become very selective, and companies which join DAFZ are joining an elite list of clientele.”

Japanese consul general in Dubai, Hiroyasu Kobayashi commented that the Japanese are good at designing and manufacturing products that are efficient and reliable. “You only realise that it’s there when they are required in an emergency like fire extinguishers for example.”

He added that Nohmi Middle East celebrated actual operations in October of last year and welcomed Keji Osa, head of office of Nohmi in Dubai, “as a valued member of the Japanese community who is not only a senior engineer but a talented guitarist.”

“The Nohmi office in DAFZ will be a sales and technical support office for the GCC region and Africa and support expansion plans of Nohmi in the Middle East,” said Keiji Kageyama, deputy director and general manager of the international division of Nohmi Bosai.

He added that Nohmi is involved in the design and manufacture of fire detection, alarm and suppression system known as NN 100 which uses nitrogen gas which extinguishes fire by depriving it of oxygen. The product is clean and environment friendly and does not damage furniture unlike the more conventional sprinkler system, he noted.

Also introduced was “Dry Mist,” which sprays mist outdoors resulting in a cooler pleasant environment and costs just a quarter when compared to traditional environment. “Dry Mist” systems are installed in Osaka, Japan, Taiwan, the US, China and last year in India.

“International companies find the DAFZ location ideal,” said Madani, being close to the Dubai Cargo Village, adjoining the Dubai International Airport and housing facilities for Dnata, Customs, Airlines, Immigration and Chamber of Commerce which are easily accessible to companies in the Dubai Airport Free Zone.

Madani added that DAFZ has recently instituted a new health and safety business award for organisations and establishments operating within the free zone, of which one award is dedicated to fire protection.

“We have also been honoured with the ‘Fire Protection and Safety Award’ granted by the Dubai Ports, Customs and FZ Authority,” he said. – TradeArabia News Service
