WHO Jordan signs up for Leed Certification

Amman, March 3, 2009

Energy Management Services International (EMS) has signed an agreement with the World Health Organisation (WHO) office in Jordan to qualify the WHO's new building for the “Gold Level” Leed certification.

EMS is the first company to provide Energy Management Solutions (ESCo) in the Middle East.

Jordan's (WHO) regional center for environmental and health activities, which contracts EMS to manage, co-ordinate and guide the transformation of the new WHO building, signed the pact thus allowing it to become certified by US Green Building Council (USGBC).

EMS will enable WHO-Jordan to achieve greater water savings, energy efficiency, indoor environmental quality, and savings on energy and operational costs, consequentially rendering them eligible for the Gold Level of the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (Leed) Certification.

The step will be the first of its kind for the WHO in the Middle East, as none of its other offices in the region holds the LEED Certification to date, said a company statement.

The certification is based on the Leed Green Building Rating System, an internationally-accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings, and is available under the Silver, Gold and Platinum categories.

Green Solutions are geared towards optimisation, integration and automation of energy systems which simplify facility management and significantly increase the energy efficiency and cost-effectiveness of buildings, all the while providing comfort and flexible control for building occupants.

Commenting on this development, Luay Jildeh, EMS country manager, said: "We are very pleased with our partnership with the World Health Organization and commend them on leading the way in adopting Green Building and Energy Management solutions."

More building owners, property managers and facilities managers are recognizing the power of Leed Certification, particularly in these changing times when energy issues are becoming more pressing and economic challenges are forcing property managers to look for ways to reduce their running costs and improve their bottom line," he pointed out.

"As specialists in our field, we at EMS are dedicated to utilizing our experienced teams and proven methodologies to help organizations, businesses, and property owners – whether residential, commercial or industrial – to lower energy costs, equipment maintenance, and harmful emissions to the environment, as well as increase efficiency," he added.

For the past 17 years, EMS has been supplying well-known companies in Jordan and the Gulf with the latest in Green Solutions services, at the forefront of which is its Smart Property Solutions (SPS) service, which centralizes on establishing ideal energy systems that help companies consume less materials, produce less waste and lessen the emission of Green House Gases (GHG), all the while capitalizing on the cost saving benefits of these services.

The company also specializes in Green Buildings that are energy efficient and use renewable energy, as certified by the US Green Building Council, and qualifies them for the Leed certification.

EMS is headquartered in Dubai and Amman and has maintained a successful policy of growth, opening regional offices across the Middle East.-TradeArabia News Service
