Interserve wins UAE, Qatar contracts

London, March 16, 2010

UK-based Interserve said it has won multi-million dollar construction contracts in the Gulf region, including a support services deal with the UAE armed forces and three lucrative contracts worth over £90 million ($135 million) in Qatar.

Interserve, one of the world's foremost support services and construction companies, said its UAE associate Khansaheb Civil Engineering, had been awarded the ‘Project Tatweer’ by the UAE Armed Forces to deliver facilities management (FM) services.

Initially the contract is to set up a pilot project at a key strategic facility and then, over the three-year contract period, to extend best practice FM services across the entire estate of over 220 locations, the UK company said in a statement.

Project Tatweer is a pathfinder project for FM outsourcing in the Gulf and the vision of the project is that it become a reference for other government departments and ministries, it added.

Gulf Contracting, Interserve’s Qatar associate, won three construction contracts with a combined value of over £90 million. The largest of these is repeat business with Siemens, for the design and construction of nine substations worth more than £55 million, Interserve said.

The two further contracts are an extension to offices Gulf Contracting constructed last year for a major petrochemical company at Ras Laffan Industrial City, and the construction of four substations for a major development project being built near Doha, it added.

Besides this, the company won major contracts in the UK and also announced the finalisation of a major £70 million project to design and construct storm-water tunnels in Preston as part of the KMI Plus joint venture.

Adrian Ringrose, Interserve’s chief executive, said, “These wins demonstrate that we are continuing to reap the benefits of our strategy of developing long-term client relationships and that there continue to be good opportunities in our main markets, both in the UK and overseas.”-TradeArabia News Service
