Saudi science museum plans in focus

Dubai, May 25, 2011

Challenges and rewards of creating a new science museum in Saudi Arabia will be the focus for an address by a leading Dubai-based professor at a museums conference opening in Warsaw tomorrow (May 26).

Professor Mike Bruton, Director of Imagineering, Dubai and Cape Town based MTE Studios, a consultancy firm specialising in themed architecture and interactive exhibitions, will address science centre and museum professionals at the 22nd annual European Network of Science Centres and Museums Conference (ECSITE).

Based on this experience, Professor Bruton of MTE Studios will provide an overview of the experience in developing a new interactive science museum on a university campus in Saudi Arabia.

He will also touch upon key areas and efforts which went into developing and finally delivering the turnkey project.

“The development of the museum in Saudi Arabia required careful consideration of Muslim attitudes towards the history and meaning of science and policies on language and sensitive issues,” said Professor Bruton.

“This was achieved by developing mutually agreed sub themes, storylines and take-home messages through frequent multi-cultural discussions, exhaustive scientific and social research, and an anonymous peer review system,” he added.

Ludo Verheyen, CEO, MTE Studios, said: “We have been in this industry for over 11 years, and have gained invaluable experience in the conceptualization, design, manufacture and installation of turn-key interactive museums, as well as traveling exhibitions.”

“Mike’s participation at the ECSITE conference reflects of our strong commitment towards building the future of museums in the region. As market leaders in turnkey museums, it is the perfect platform for us to network with our partners and industry peers.” – TradeArabia News Service
