2,500 homes on way for Bahraini families

Manama, March 14, 2012

More than 2,500 homes are set to be distributed this year to Bahraini families on the Housing Ministry's waiting list, said a senior government official.

Housing Minister Bassem Al Hamer said the units will be allocated to families in Muharraq, Arad, Burhama, Jaw, Askar, Jasra, Dair, Samaheej, Jidhafs, Malkiya, Busaiteen, Zallaq, Budaiya and Buri.

"The houses will be distributed according to family expansion needs of the town and village," he said.

"If those numbers are fulfilled, then others in the governorate will be eligible to get homes in the project nearest to their area. And if that is fulfilled, then others from nearby governorates will be considered to get units in the project nearest to them."

Al Hamer was responding to questions by parliament public utilities and environment affairs committee vice-chairman Adnan Al Malky, and MPs Dr Ali Ahmed and Ali Shamtoot about the ministry's plans this year.

Meanwhile, MPs insisted on their earlier decision to back a bill that would specify bonuses given to government officials who are board members of authorities, institutions, companies and establishments.

The bill was originally proposed by parliament in a bid to end what they called "lavish money squandering" but has been rejected by the Shura Council.

It will now be referred again to the council and if the bill is rejected again then it will be suspended. – TradeArabia News Service
