Siemens sets up stadium solutions unit in Doha

Doha, June 3, 2013

Siemens, a leading energy management and building technologies company, has established an office in Doha to showcase its portfolio of integrated solutions for major sporting events.

The Program Office World Cup 2022 in Doha will demonstrate how it can support Qatar’s preparations for the upcoming Fifa World Cup.

Siemens provides stadium and venue operators with a wide range of technologies, covering the entire spectrum of requirements to run successful sports events, including transport and intelligent traffic management systems, lighting, energy, healthcare, fire and safety, smart grid, communications, building technologies, and district cooling.

“By setting-up the Program Office years ahead of the games, Siemens has demonstrated a commitment to bringing intelligent solutions that can assist infrastructure and industry customers in increasing their productivity, efficiency and flexibility in the run-up to the World Cup 2022,” said Bernhard Fonseka, CEO, Siemens Qatar.

“Strengthening our presence in Qatar enables us to apply locally our vast international experience of bringing innovations to large-scale sports events.”

The Program Office is headed by Jan Schoenig, who has worked at Siemens for 16 years and was involved in major global sporting events during the past eight years. Prior to taking on his current role, Schoenig was instrumental in preparations for the upcoming Brazil World Cup 2014.

“Siemens has proven its capabilities in executing high-profile events with sustainability in mind,” said Schoenig.

“As the world’s largest provider of environmentally-friendly technologies, Siemens can support Qatar through its highly-efficient suite of building and energy management solutions in creating a sustainable urban development for the World Cup 2022.”

During the ongoing World Stadium Congress in Doha, Siemens will give a technology outlook for stadiums and the supporting infrastructure, where the integration of all applications is essential.

Siemens showcased its stadium solutions in events including the World Cup 2006 in Germany and 2010 in South Africa, the Olympic Games 2008 in Beijing and 2012 in London, and most recently the 2012 European Championships in Poland and Ukraine. – TradeArabia News Service
