Makkah high speed rail project in focus

Operations of the $6.8 billion first phase of the Haramain High Speed Rail Project, which will include two metro lines in Makkah, will come under focus at an upcoming railway conference in Riyadh.

The fifth annual Middle East Rail Opportunities conference will take place on May 5 and 6 at Riyadh InterContinental Hotel.

Luis Sánchez Monserrat, director at ADIF, Saudi Arabia will discuss the challenges in the structure of investments for Saudi Arabia‘s first high speed railway network, expected to cost $16.5 billion.

He will also explain the operations of phase one, which is due to begin work in mid-2014 and take three years.

The current developments and initiatives taken by the government to improve the rail connectivity in the region will not only benefit the passengers in the region but will also improve the trade links within the region.

Tariq Abdulrahman Al Marzouki, chairman of Transport Committee at the Council of Saudi Chambers, Saudi Arabia will provide with an extensive presentation on the growing demand of freight rail for transportation of minerals in Saudi Arabia.

A panel discussion on the future of the railways in the Middle East led by Ibrahim K. Kutubkhanah from Metro Jeddah Company, Loay Ghazaleh representing Ministry of Works, Bahrain and John Sfakianakis from MASIC will provide answers on what is 'The Plan' for the future. They will also explain the best strategies to execute the plan for railway networks.

The summit will also gather leading solution providers to showcase their technologies and competence for the development of the projects.

China's CSR who was awarded the third contract for the North South Railway Project has already confirmed their participation in the summit as a Gold Sponsor along with Vossloh, one of the leading companies in rail infrastructure and rail technology. – TradeArabia News Service
