Irish group Byrne Looby inks Qatar JV

Doha, January 8, 2014

International engineering services provider Byrne Looby Partners said it has partnered with Doha-based Asco Consulting Engineers to set up a joint venture firm which will assist in Qatar's development and its 2030 Vision.

Founded in Ireland in 1998, Byrne Looby Partners boasts of a team of experienced and responsive engineering experts who specialise in delivering solutions for the water, marine, infrastructure and energy sectors.

The Irish firm entered the Qatari market two years ago and since designed some of the largest tunnelling projects in the country. With international offices in the UK, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Dubai and Abu Dhabi, the company is delivering projects with a capital value up to $2 billion.

With Asco’s 40 years’ experience and licence as a Grade A engineering consultancy in Qatar, the move marks an essential part of Byrne Looby Partners’ growth in the Middle East, resulting in a significant increase of its workforce in both Ireland and the GCC region.

The JV partnership was announced during the Enterprise Ireland Trade and Investment Mission to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Qatar and UAE.

Sam Murdock, the water director, Byrne Looby Partners said, "Through our JV, we have created some solid revenue streams for 2014, we have grown the team and added new skills, and we have won world class projects for international agencies in new areas."

"We are looking forward to a long and fruitful relationship that will allow our Irish Engineering expertise, together with our local technical excellence, to assist in the development of Qatar and its 2030 Vision," he remarked.

According to him, Byrne Looby Partners employs a total of 100 people across its offices and estimates that the number of employees serving Qatar will reach 20 in 2014.

Commenting on the JV, Taoiseach Enda Kenny said: "This announcement builds on the significant achievements by Byrne Looby since they entered the Qatari market just two years ago. They continue to win highly prestigious contracts, underpinning the fact that Irish firms have a very high reputation in this region for quality, innovative services and products."

Lauding Byrne Looby for the strategic move, Minister for Jobs Richard Bruton TD said, "This shows what is possible for Irish companies in the region. Construction and engineering are areas which we have targeted as part of our Action Plan for Jobs, and Byrne Looby's success is a great endorsement of the strength of Irish exporting businesses."-TradeArabia News Service
