HBK Contracting wins stadium enabling works

Doha, May 7, 2014

HBK Contracting Company has won the contract for the enabling works for Al Wakrah stadium, the first venue to be delivered ahead of the 2022 Fifa World Cup, in Doha, a report said.

As part of the Supreme Committee’s legacy initiative to develop the private sector, the tender process was implemented for a number of Qatari contractors.

The enabling works phase will begin this month and will complete around March 2015, said the Peninsula report.

HBK's contract will cover bulk earthworks including site clearance, excavation and disposal, filling, as well as underground services and stadium foundations, a statement said.

The 40,000-seat stadium will be surrounded by approximately 560,000 sq m of legacy precinct with a new sports centre and community hub.
