Mall of Qatar work on track for 2015 opening

Doha, June 2, 2014

Construction of the Mall of Qatar is on schedule and the mega project is expected to open in the last quarter of 2015, it was revealed at the Cityscape Qatar, which opened in Doha today.

Mall of Qatar will be a “a super regional mall” offering over 400 shops, three major anchors, a luxury 5 star hotel, a unique Family Entertainment Centre, world class daily live entertainment concept  and an array of 81 international restaurants, cafes and specialty food shops.

A statement said the mall will  finalise over 70 per cent of its leasing by October 2014 with most of its key strategic agreements in place.

The management team at the Mall of Qatar is delighted with the response they continue to have from major retailers to join the mall and it is anticipated that by the end of Q3 2014 at least an  estimated 70 per cent or more of the strategic agreements will be concluded, based on letters of commitment and negotiations at hand, the statement said.

The mall is being built just a short 20-minute drive from the centre of the city and in the heart of a major new development area that will see 10,000 new villas being built, alongside new Metro and regional rail links and improved highway connections to the centre of Doha.

Commenting on the success of their leasing strategy to date, Shem Krey, deputy managing director, Mall of Qatar, said: “We have had an amazingly enthusiastic response from major retailers in the region and internationally who have all responded positively to our plans to create the first super regional shopping mall destination in Qatar.

“They have understood our vision, commitment and determination to provide the people of Qatar and surrounding countries like Saudi Arabia and Kuwait with a world class destination mall that can match and surpass in some areas any other destination mall facility in the region.

“Mall of Qatar will be introducing a number of unique elements into our project that have not been seen in the Middle East before, from the innovative format of our anchor hypermarket to our daily Q-Live entertainment facility and family entertainment centre that will be debuting formats for the first time that will delight young and old.”

Krey added that Cityscape Qatar was an important platform for the mall to update partners, the public and the media on the continuing successful progress of the project as construction still continues on schedule and they gear up for an opening date in the last quarter of 2015.

Mall of Qatar has selected Cinemacity to create the largest Cineplex in Qatar, with an Imax theatre featuring its next-generation digital laser projection system that will be one of 19 screens at the complex.  - TradeArabia News Service
