Nakheel inks $12m design, engineering deals

Dubai, July 16, 2014

Dubai-based master developer Nakheel has signed design and engineering contracts worth Dh46 million ($12.5 million) for two major developments in its project pipeline:  Deira Islands Mall and Palm West Beach.

The deals inked with RSP Architects, Planners and Engineers, include a Dh40 million contract for a 620,000 sq m retail, dining and entertainment hub at Deira Islands, Nakheel’s new, 15.3 sq km waterfront city in Dubai, which was launched in June.

The second contract, worth about Dh6 million, is for Palm West Beach, Nakheel’s new, 1.5 km beachside park, dining and entertainment complex to be built on Palm Jumeirah’s western trunk.

The tenders for the construction of both projects are expected to be released before the end of the year.

Deira Islands Mall

The mall will feature more than 200,000 sq m of leasable space, hundreds of shops, cinemas and a wide variety of cafes and restaurants. It will host a number of attractions including a night market, hotels, amphitheatre and marina – to be built by Nakheel at the new coastal city.

The island will itself add 40km, including 21km of beachfront to Dubai’s coastline and pave the way for hundreds of tourism, leisure and residential developments including hotels, resorts, serviced apartments, mixed-use buildings and waterside homes.

Palm West Beach

It is a high-end beach club facility to be constructed along a 1.5 km stretch on the western trunk of Palm Jumeirah. It will feature a shaded park and promenade, 14 waterfront restaurants, lounge, gym and entertainment terrace. - TradeArabia News Service
