GCC fund for Bahrain to spur major new projects

Manama, August 4, 2014

Developing infrastructure and improving housing remains the principal focus of projects being planned in Bahrain using the GCC Development Fund, it was declared.

Thirty-seven per cent of the projects already in the pipeline have been allocated for housing, the Bahrain’s Cabinet heard yesterday (August 3), said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.

His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Premier chaired the session for the first time, which focused on Bahrain's growth and development strategies.

Tenders have already been awarded for projects worth $2 billion, ministers heard. Tenders for another $3 billion worth of projects will be awarded by the year-end.

Top priority is being given to housing projects. Other priority sectors include development of electricity and water facilities, expansion of Bahrain International Airport, sewage, roads and education. – TradeArabia News Service
