Dubai Customs and Department of Finance/Abu Dhabi Customs Administration have signed a MoU aimed at consolidating partnership and furthering co-operation between the two sides within a corporate system.

The agreement was signed by Ahmed Butti Ahmed, the director general of Dubai Customs and CEO of the Ports, Maritime and Free Zone Authority, and Saeed Ahmed Al Muhairi, director general of Abu Dhabi Customs.

The MoU is highly important due to the comparative significant weight of external trade represented by Abu Dhabi and Dubai and is key to serving all segments of society and fostering the UAE’s economic and social development.

Hamad Hur Al Suwaidi, chairman of Abu Dhabi's Finance Department pointed out that these agreements helped in developing and co-coordinating common work between Customs departments in the UAE.

Ahmed Butti said the agreement is in line with the strategic goals that Dubai Customs seeks to realize through exchange of best practices in corporate procedures, and contributing to the process of economic development.

“The signed memorandum covers a number of scopes that include the protection of economy, security protection, building up of potentials, training, and unified standards.”

He stressed the fact that Dubai Customs always seeks to enhance means of co-operation with other local customs federal government departments to meet the targeted expectations and cement sustainable development.

Al Muhairi said the pact will help activate common work between the two sides which is expected to advance the UAE society and beef up the economic and social process.

"It will also help protect society from different perils and threats, uplift revenues significantly, facilitate trade through the reduction of security risks that may result from international trade and travel, facilitate legal flow of persons and shipments," he added.-TradeArabia News Service
