Dubai, January 21, 2008

Dubai Healthcare City, a member of Tatweer has launched the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Academic Medical Center with an aim to improve the health status of families in Dubai and the region.

The medical centre was formed with the integration of its other entities - University Hospital, Harvard Medical School Dubai Center Institute for Postgraduate Education and Research, Al Maktoum Harvard Medical Library, and Dubai Harvard Foundation for Medical Research.

The academic medical center serves an important role in moving Dubai and the region successfully toward the quality and workforce development targets established in the strategic vision 2015 mandate for the healthcare sector, a top official said.

'The medical center is a valuable community asset that aims to improve the health status of families in Dubai and the region. It is a catalyst for healthcare advancements and a contributor to an expanded healthcare workforce. Its four components address the very important mission of advanced clinical care, education, and medical research,' Saeed Al-Muntafiq, executive chairman of Tatweer said.

Al Muntafiq said the creation of the medical center under the sponsorship of Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE vice president and prime minister and ruler of Dubai strengthens DHCC’s vision and capabilities of becoming an integrated center of excellence in healthcare, medical education and research.

'DHCC has forged strong partnerships with global healthcare leaders which aims at producing high quality clinical care as well as expand the healthcare workforce and produce new knowledge through research,' he added.

The medical Center supports the government’s strategy for the healthcare sector by introducing new standards for healthcare excellence in the region, exceptional educational resource for physicians, nurses and healthcare professionals, and robust clinical and health services research programs.

“Dubai Healthcare City is at the forefront of the healthcare industry in the region, driving improvements through organizational, accreditation, and quality frameworks. The new center will further strengthen DHCC’s impact on the community while being the largest medical, education and research enterprises within the region.” said Ahmad Sharaf senior vice president healthcare and energy, Tatweer.-TradeArabia News Service
