Heriot-Watt varsity introduces MSc in Real Estate

Dubai, April 16, 2008

Heriot-Watt University is introducing a new course for September 2008:  an MSc in Real Estate Management and Development.

In a region where the level of real estate development and investment is leading the economy, there is a strong demand for professionals with expertise in the property industry, said an official spokesman.

The new MSc in Real Estate Management (REMD), presented by the University’s School of the Built Environment, is being offered to address this critical requirement both within the UAE and globally.

The course was established in 2002 at Heriot-Watt in the UK.  In less than half a decade it has become the leader in the field and graduates are sought out by leading international real estate and property development companies and consultancies.

“The decision to introduce the real estate management programme in Dubai is based on student demand and the market need,” said School of the Built Environment, Professor of Construction Economics and Management, Professor Ammar Kaka.

“This programme will give professionals, investors and decision makers in the real estate industry the competitive advantage to progress their careers.”

The programme will be launched in Dubai in September 2008 in response to industry needs for professional qualification and development.

The new MSc in REMD will be accredited by Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).  The programme is ideal for busy, working professionals with limited time, as it offers flexible and convenient study sessions in evenings and weekends.

Subjects covered include:  Appraisal and Valuation; Asset Management; Real Estate Economics; and Planning and Property Law.

Heriot-Watt University was the first international university to open its doors at Dubai International Academic City.  Renowned for its world-class research capabilities, international reach, and global reputation in the fields of engineering and management, Heriot-Watt, the 8th oldest Higher Education Institution in the UK, was invited to establish a Dubai campus in 2005.

“With an international reputation for science, business, engineering and design expertise, Heriot-Watt is the ideal foundation for internationally-focused students and executives seeking a top quality British education,” said deputy principal, International Academic and Business Development, Heriot-Watt University, Professor Brian Smart. – TradeArabia News Service
