Yas Marina readies schools for F1

Abu Dhabi, June 4, 2011

Following the success of the past two 'F1in Schools' seasons, Yas Marina Circuit is now inviting primary and secondary schools throughout the UAE to register students for the 2011/2012 season.

Now in its third year, the UAE-based programme, run by Yas Marina Circuit and presented by Mubadala Investment Company, will again seek to create a fun learning environment where students can develop an informed view about a variety of career disciplines including engineering, motorsports, science, marketing and technology.

The 'F1 in Schools' programme is a leading multi-disciplinary challenge for 9-19 year-old students.

Over the course of the programme, teams must design and build a miniature Formula 1 car; in addition to the design, build and performance element, teams must write a business plan, develop a marketing strategy and present their work to a panel of judges.

“We are delighted to welcome a new round of schools and students into the F1 in Schools programme,” said Richard Cregan, chief executive officer of Yas Marina Circuit.

“The challenge is not only helping students to develop new skills but also to help diversify the UAE’s future labour market. We encourage schools to join early to get the full benefits this world-renowned challenge has to offer,” Cregan added.

Once registered, participating teams will receive a free informative starter kit and special software that will help students to design, build and race their miniature Formula 1 car.

The participating schools will also get to host an F1 in Schools assembly, presented by Yas Marina Circuit, to help teams with their projects and further educate other students about the various careers in Formula 1, said Cregan.-TradeArabia News Service
