120 graduate from du’s career skills course

Dubai, June 27, 2011

A total of 120 students recently graduated from the first season of a career skills programme conducted by du, a leading telecom service provider in the UAE.

The Life Skills programme at du’s Al Salam Tower premises aimed to play a part in nurturing essential career skills in young UAE Nationals, allowing them to better present themselves as competent professionals.

Participating academic organisations were asked to nominate students enrolled in the graduating year at their institution to take part in the course, with no obligation for the students to join or apply to work at du on completion.

“We would like to extend our sincere congratulations to the students who have successfully completed our inaugural Life Skills programme, and offer our thanks to the education partners who worked with us to bring this series of courses into being,” said Fahad Al Hassawi, du’s chief human resources and shared services officer.

“As part of our Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, this Life Skills programme has given today’s graduates essential skills to help them with finding, retaining, and making a difference at their first job. This programme is a reflection of our commitment towards developing our Emirati youth, in whom we have great hopes and aspirations.”

The goals of the programme include developing awareness of business aims and expectations, to make students prepared for conversations with business and human resource managers, to help them become knowledgeable about what is required for getting their first job.

A total of 12 courses were presented as part of the Life Skills programme, focusing on a variety of topics including interpersonal skills, preparation as a job seeker, think on your feet, power reading skills, business writing for professionals, business etiquette, problem solving and decision making, interview techniques, settling into a job, effective team working, communication at the workplace and succeeding at job search and job interviewing. – TradeArabia News Service
