Bahrain may extend school hours

Manama, July 17, 2011

Bahrain’s Education Ministry is planning to extend class hours in secondary schools, to bring them in line with working hours in developed countries.

Schools in developed countries have more than 900 hours of classes per year compared to between 700 and 750 at Bahrain schools.

Teachers will be compensated for the additional hours in accordance with Civil Service Bureau regulations, the minister, Dr Majid Al Nuaimi, told our sister paper Akhbar Al Khaleej.

Meanwhile, 70 special needs students will enter regular schools this year. It will come in line with a law that seeks to provide students with special needs the necessary care and educational facilities.

A total of 222 special needs students were incorporated in regular schools across the kingdom last year. – TradeArabia News Service
