Bahrain’s unemployment rate drops to 3.8pc

More than 2,000 people in Bahrain were employed in the last three months as unemployment rate dropped to 3.8 per cent from 4.1 per cent in the first quarter of the year, said a senior government official.

Labour Minister Jameel Humaidan was speaking as he opened Bahrain Education and Training Exhibition yesterday (June 27).

Thanks to the salary support scheme, 1,836 university graduates have been employed in the private sector so far, while about 100 of 2,500 jobseekers have been recruited through the University Graduates Employment project in its second phase, he said.

The exhibition Bahrain Training and Education before Work was organised by Medpoint Event Management under the patronage of Humaidan, who inaugurated the event at the Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Centre.

Present were Medpoint chairwoman Shaikha Noora bint Khalifa Al Khalifa, ministry under-secretary Subah Salim Al Dossary, officials, local business owners and heads of training and educational institutes.

The expo, which continues today (June 28), aims to encourage students to arm themselves with education and offers the latest work opportunities in Bahrain and higher education courses in the kingdom.

Among the participating organisations were United Nations Industrial Development Organisation office of Investment and Technology Promotion. – TradeArabia News Service
