Sharjah arts centre inks multimedia deal

Sharjah, June 1, 2013

FUNN (Sharjah Media Arts for Youth & Children) has signed a MoU with the Ministry of Education - paving the way for a wide range of collaborations to groom young talents in filmmaking, animation, design and a vast array of innovative new media art forms.

Representing FUNN was Jawaher Abdulla Al Qassimi, the assistant manager of FUNN and the director of the Sharjah International Children’s Film Festival (SICFF); who signed the agreement with Humaid Mohammed Al Qutami, UAE Minister of Education.

FUNN was established by Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qassimi, wife of Sharjah Ruler to promote and support Media Arts for young children and the youth of Sharjah and UAE.

Speaking at the ceremony, Al Qassimi said, "Previously many students had to choose between a career in technology or a career in arts. But the global creative landscape is evolving, and now artists can get the best of both worlds through a fusion of creativity and cutting edge technology - for instance through filmmaking, 3D animation and motion graphics."

"We are delighted that the Ministry of Education is encouraging students to broaden their horizons and explore their extracurricular talents, because learning does not only take place in the classroom - through art, the community can become a virtual ‘classroom’ for artists," he remarked.

As per the deal, the two parties will collectively implement projects, competitions and cultural initiatives to foster creativity in schools.

The collaboration will enable young artists to create movies and cartoons for children, in addition to other art forms such as photographs, illustrations, animations, graphic designs and much more. Technical support will be provided for students around the UAE, with Sharjah at the forefront of this artistic movement.

The Ministry will support FUNN through accreditation, as well as raising awareness. The cumulative effect of these efforts will create an environment that is conducive to all forms of creative expression, and put UAE artists at the forefront of the global creative industry.-TradeArabia News Service
