Bahrain private school shut down for safety lapses

Manama, February 26, 2014

A Bahrain private school has been shut down for safety and security lapses.

Education Minister Dr Majid Al Nuaimi ordered City International School to close for flagrant licensing violations, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.

The principal was summoned by the ministry and handed over the closure decision.

The measure followed a report submitted by a follow-up committee that paid a surprise visit to the establishment.

Classes will be suspended for all standards pending removal of the violations.

The school was earlier warned for failing to abide by safety norms. It has been ordered to commission an accredited engineering firm to assess the premises, once revamped, and deliver a technical safety certificate.

The ministry warned it would consider legal measures, including revoking the school’s licence. - TradeArabia News Service
