HP joins Al Noor to help special children

Dubai, June 18, 2008

Hewlett-Packard (HP) has launched an initiative to help special children gain IT knowledge and skills.

The project, in partnership with Al Noor Training Centre for Children with Special Needs is to support the development of the centre’s IT infrastructure and help children gain proficiency in IT skills.

The centre is a non-profit organisation supported by Princess Haya bint Al Hussein, wife of Vice-President of the UAE and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. It is run under the Ministry of Social Affairs and provides children with special needs a combination of high level of education and training, including computer training courses to enhance their knowledge and skills.

To help Al Noor Training Centre offer high-quality services for the children, HP Middle East has provided the centre with capabilities needed, including PCs, cameras, projectors, photosmart printers and networking. It will not only benefit the children, but will also help Al Noor work placement trainees to learn key IT skills.

“We are glad to work with Al Noor organisation on their project for developing the training centre,” said HP Middle East managing director John Hoonhout.

“We offer our children comprehensive and professional programs tailored to suit their needs and will help them cope with the society without feeling different. HP’s contribution has considerably boosted the quality of the IT program at Al Noor and has helped us achieve our aim,” said Al Noor director Isphana Al Khatib.

The project comes as part of HP’s commitment to provide programmes, resources and tools to transform and improve teaching and learning with mobile classroom solutions. – TradeArabia News Service
