Teeing off for Think Pink Bahrain

Manama, September 26, 2010

Two charity golf tournaments in support of breast cancer will be held at the Royal Golf Club, Riffa, next month.

The sixth annual Think Pink Bahrain Ladies Charity Golf Day will take place on October 27 and a gent's-only tournament on October 24.

'Last year's tournament raised more than BD9,000 in aid of raising breast cancer awareness in Bahrain,' said club operations director Phil Jones.

'With the help of the local community we aim to cross the BD10,000 mark this year for this important cause.'

The money raised from the events will again be directed towards education. Funds raised last year were used to send four healthcare professionals to take a certified lymphedema course in Germany and two are now registered to study for a Master's at Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland-Medical University of Bahrain.

Experienced lady golfers are invited to compete in an 18-hole Texas Scramble on the club's Montgomerie championship course teeing off with an 8am shotgun start. Ladies with higher handicaps have the option to play a nine-hole scramble at 9.30am on the club's Wee Monty par 3 course.

The two ladies tournaments will be rounded off with a lunch and prize-giving ceremony in the function room.

The men's nine-hole tournament will be played under floodlights on the back nine of the Montgomerie course. It will tee off at 6.30pm and be played in the team stableford best two of four format.

Entry forms for all tournaments can be found on the club's website www.theroyalgolfclub.com.

'We have a number of excellent sponsorship opportunities available for these prestigious events,' said Think Pink founder Julie Sprakel.

'Companies can display their company-branded banner on a golf hole from just BD250 or BD100 on the Wee Monty course. This will also entitle them to have their logo on all event signage, as well as receiving media coverage before and after the event and recognition at the prize-giving ceremony.'

Sponsors signed up to support the 2010 Think Pink Bahrain golf tournaments, include BMI, Harley-Davidson and Seef Dental. Optima will once again provide golf shirts for the participants in all three competitions.

Entry fees for the ladies nine-hole tournament are BD20 for members and BD35 for guests, for the ladies 18-hole tournament they are BD20 for members and BD50 for guests and the men's nine-hole night golf tournament are BD20 for members and BD35 for guests.
