Bahrain hospital deploys ‘safety’ solution

Manama, March 11, 2012

King Hamad University Hospital (KHUH) in Bahrain has deployed the first phase of a new Datix patient safety software for healthcare risk management solution.

Health Matrix, Datix’s local partner in the Middle East region, implemented the solution to deliver state-of-the-art technology supporting patient safety and reducing risk around patient care at KHUH.

Datix is currently in being used by more than 1,700 people across all hospital departments to capture and monitor clinical and non-clinical incidents and risks, a statement from the hospital said.

“The estimated international figure of clinical incidents, near miss and adverse events resulting in unnecessary harm, pain and suffering and sometimes even death was the main trigger for KHUH top management’s decision to implement the risk management program. Patient safety and risk management become very crucial elements that have been focused and managed at the hospital from the early stages of the project phases,” a spokesperson from KHUH said.

“The journey with implementation of the incident /near miss reporting and risk modules from Datix takes approximately six months from extensive works and efforts from the quality and patient safety directorate members at KHUH, Datix and Health Matrix representatives. In addition, this is the first hospital in the GCC that has launched this particular software from Health Matrix and has become as a reference hospital,” the spokesperson said.

Jonathan Hazan, CEO, Datix, said: “Since partnering with Health Matrix last summer, we have worked diligently to bring the latest innovations in healthcare technology to the Middle East marketplace. This latest announcement underlines the growing demand for our solutions in the region and the success of our relationship with Health Matrix.”

Abdul Rahman Qasim, chief executive officer at Health Matrix, said: “Our expertise in the local health sector combined with Datix software guarantees a powerful patient safety and risk management framework to ensure the continued success of the hospital.” – TradeArabia News Service
