Dubai fitness contest launched

Dubai, July 10, 2013

Dubai Fitness Championship, an initiative to raise awareness on the importance of exercising, health and promoting fitness across the UAE, is set to start on August 18.

The initiative has been launched by Sheikh Majid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, chairman of the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority.

The qualifying rounds will play out over a period of three weeks ending on September 8, leading up to the finals that will be held on September 12 for females and on September 13 for males, for the second time on a circuit set up at Ski Dubai in The Dubai Mall, said a statement.

The championship aims to find the fittest man and woman in Dubai. The number of qualifiers for the finals this year, has been raised to 36 men and 36 women, with a prize of Dh100,000 ($27,225) to the winner of each category, it said.

Prizes will also be rewarded to all participants in the finals. Those who wish to participate will be allowed as many attempts as they wish in the qualification round, giving them a chance to improve their time and performance in addition to increasing their likelihood of reaching the final, said the statement.

The qualifying rounds will be held at the approved Fitness First clubs, the sports partner of the championship. The winners of the four tournaments from last year will qualify directly into the final competition, it said.

Sheikh Majid reminds all participants that the ultimate prize is the reward of showing strength and endurance in the face of extreme competition, and for becoming an ‘ideal’ in terms of physical fitness that others in the community can strive to. – TradeArabia News Service
