Regular screening 'vital to beat breast cancer'

Dubai, October 23, 2013

Regular screening is extremely essential for the early detection and timely treatment of breast cancer, according to leading experts at Dubai-based Medcare Hospital.

Laying emphasis on early detection to beat breast cancer, the Hospital has launched its annual Medcare Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign (MBCAC).

As part of the campaign, the hospital is offering a special package that includes screening tests and consultations with the specialist doctors before and after the tests.

The package is available at a highly subsidized cost at the Hospital. The screening includes mammography for women above 40 years, and ultra sound mammography for women below 40 years.

Commenting on the drive, Dr Agatha Moniz, the consultant obstetrician & gynecologist, said: “Breast cancer screening is extremely important for all women. While a woman may or may not suspect herself to be at risk, it is better not to take this for granted. Doing regular check-ups is an important part of staying healthy and preventing life-threatening illnesses.”

Ensuring that a maximum number of women are able to benefit from this special offer, the Hospital would extend appointments until February 2014. The appointments can be booked from now until October 31, she added.

Dr Ivana Cimilijic, the specialist obstetrician & gynecologist  said this was a great opportunity for all women to get their checkup done.

"The MBCAC being an annual initiative for us, we have seen an increase in awareness as well as the response to the campaign among women. The UAE has been laying a lot of emphasis on awareness about the disease. We are glad that we are able to join the cause and help spread the word to as many as possible," she added.-TradeArabia News Service
