Dubai World chief wins Scata award

Dubai World chairman Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem has won the first-ever 'Supply Chain and Transport Awards' (Scata) Hall of Fame award in recognition of his “valued contribution to the growth of the industry” in the Middle East region.

Drydocks World - Dubai won 'Best Shipyard of the Year' award at the same event for the third successive year. Both awards were presented during a ceremony attended by more than 250 industry professionals from across the region.

Farid Mohammed Ahmed, secretary general of Dubai World, received the award on behalf of Bin Sulayem.

The award, in recognition of a leading personality within the Middle East logistics industry, praised Bin Sulayem for his continued “strong and valued contribution to the industry’s growth over the years,” as well as his “efforts to raise the benchmark for regional and global excellence.”

Drydocks World – Dubai won the Best Shipyard of the Year for its top performance, safety, quality and environmental practices, focus on technical innovations as well as its contribution to the region’s reputation as a centre of maritime excellence.

Laksmi Janarthanan, divisional manager - commercial, received the award on behalf of Nawal Saigal, managing director of Drydocks World – Dubai.

Scata, launched in 2007 by ITP Business, a leading publisher of transportation magazines, has become one of the premier industry recognition events focused on the Middle East.

Scata awards are given in 16 categories, covering the logistics, sea freight and air cargo sectors.

'It is an honour to be the first recipient of Scata's Hall of Fame Award. This is the industry’s recognition of Dubai World’s efforts to establish and maintain Dubai’s status as the premier hub for transport and logistics services,' said a delighted Bin Sulayem.

Global marine terminal operator DP World and Economic Zones World have played a key role in this undertaking, contributing significantly to the rapid growth of Dubai and the UAE.

'I also congratulate Drydocks World - Dubai for once again winning the award for Best Shipyard. It is a mark of their dedication to quality and meeting the needs of customers,' he added.

Saigal said: 'Winning the Scata award for the third consecutive year is a celebration of the hard work and dedication of our team, our clients, our vendors and our suppliers.'
