Gulf Extrusions plans East African expansion

Dubai, February 25, 2010

Gulf Extrusions, one of the largest aluminum extrusion plants in the Gulf, plans to strengthen the company’s presence in the East African market.

The company is participating in the 14th Ethiopia Trade Expo that began on February 25 and runs till February 28, in line with its expansion plans.

During the four-day event that is being held at the Addis Ababa Exhibition Centre in Ethiopia, Gulf Extrusions is showcasing its products such as curtain walls, and sliding and hinged windows, while also leveraging the exhibition platform to connect with hundreds of qualified buyers from Ethiopia and neighbouring countries who are looking for new products and technology.

“The East African market, and Ethiopia in particular, holds tremendous potential for Gulf Extrusions, especially considering that Ethiopia has been among the fastest growing non-oil dependent African nations in recent years, and also because international products are in high demand here since the country is a major importer of products. Our participation in Ethiopia Trade Expo 2010 provides the ideal platform for us to build on our presence here and tap new market opportunities,” said Modar Al Mekdad, general manager, Gulf Extrusions.

Last year, the Ethiopia Trade Expo was attended by more than 55,000 visitors and 271 companies from 21 countries, and the organisers expect the 2010 edition to attract an even higher number of visitors.

Gulf Extrusions together with its partner Tracon Trading has undertaken several projects in Ethiopia over the years, including the Addis Ababa Gbia Center, East Metro Building, Alemash Building, Ato Solomon Yirdaw, Arcan International, MGK Makonnen Building, Yeshi PLC, Zemen Bank, Hulaum Center, Negash Bayne Building, among others.

Gulf Extrusions, which is part of the Al Ghurair Group of Companies, was awarded the ISO 9001:2000 certification for Quality Management last year. The company produces profiles ranging from architectural sections to components for household items, AC grills and customised products. Gulf Extrusions also extrudes products of several European suppliers and companies under agreement.

Nearly 70 per cent of Gulf Extrusions' production is supplied to the domestic market to support the enormous construction projects in the UAE. The rest are exported to South East Asia, other GCC countries, Europe and Canada.-TradeArabia News Service
