The Dubai Multi Commodities Centre Authority (DMCC) and Platts, a leading global provider of energy and commodities information, are hosting the inaugural Steel & Iron Markets Breakfast Briefing in Dubai next week.

The event will be held at the Almas Tower Conference facility on December 12. 

Malcolm Wall Morris, chief executive officer of the DMCC, said: “The DMCC is the region’s only international commodity centre and dedicated market place and has licensed over 300 companies related to steel and iron ore industry. We have developed a fit-for-purpose regulatory framework, modern infrastructure, freehold property ownership, innovative products and value-added services that has led to companies such as Macsteel to decide to operate from within the JLT.”

DMCC set up the DMCC Steel Club, a dedicated networking association which identifies business opportunities, facilitates the development of global best practices and engages key industry stakeholders. In addition to providing services to support to industry players, DMCC was also the driving force behind the development of the world’s first internationally recognised exchange-traded steel derivate, the Steel Rebar Future.

This was launched on the Dubai Gold & Commodities Exchange, the region’s largest commodity and currency derivative market.

Francis Browne, Platts director of market reporting, metals, said: “It has been a fascinating year for iron and steel with the shift from pricing contracts annually to shorter term and more reflective of spot. Platts in 2010 launched a portfolio of daily hard coking coal pricing, new scrap and billet assessments to complement our global physical and paper prices for iron ore, steel and ferroalloys. Any look ahead to 2011 and the forward markets that are developing requires a review of the changes seen; we are pleased to be able to provide that analysis.”

The briefing will feature four presentations by Platts editors and industry experts. These will include a presentation on the Outlook for Steel Markets in 2011; on Price Developments & Platts Price Assessment Methodology, and on the findings of a Middle East Steel Market Analysis.- TradeArabia News Service
