Saudi Almajdouie sets ME logistics record

Riyadh, January 8, 2012

Almajdouie, a leading project logistics and supply chain firm based in Saudi, said it has  successfully transported the world’s largest evaporator weighing a total 4891 tons, thus breaking its previous record.

The heaviest load ever moved in the Middle East, the evaporator is equivalent to a football field in size and with an assumed weight of 5,000 cars. It is 124 meters long, 34 meters wide and 12 meters in height.

In 2010, Almajdouie had transported six units of evaporators for Shuwaihat, S2 IWPP project in Abu Dhabi which measured 104.7 metres long, 31.4 meters wide and 11 meters in height and it weighed in total 4600 tons, said a company statement.

By moving this 4891 tons evaporator, the Saudi logistics company had broken its previous record, it added.

Almajdouie said it had used a self propelled modular trailer (SPMT) 172 axle lines, 688 double width tyres with a capacity of 6680 tons to carry the giant evaporator.

The company attributed the success to months of planning and engineering besides the plan also involved trailer computation based on shipping drawing, site survey, planning route simulations to move this huge unit from Ras al Khair Jetty to the foundation.

Almajdouie will be moving a total 8 evaporators and from this, the first evaporator is already on site. This challenging operation was executed by a team of highly professional experts, it added.

The core contractor Doosan had won the order for the plant project for $1.76 billion from Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC) in Saudi Arabia.

Almajdouie was awarded for the overall on-shore activities for the World Largest Evaporator built by Doosan Heavy Industries of Korea. The next evaporator is expected in February 2012.-TradeArabia News Service
