Alba lab enters 'Top 5' gobal list

Manama, September 29, 2013

Aluminium Bahrain's (Alba), laboratory was judged to be within the top 5 position out of a list of 41 labs from different smelters around the world, according to the report of 'Baked Anode Round Robin 2012-13' conducted by R&D Carbon, Switzerland.

The report was finalised after analysing a test sample of baked anode sent from R&D Carbon to over 41 laboratories around the world, said a statement from Alba.

Some of the parameters used for the test were: apparent density, electrical resistance, thermal conductivity, crystalline size and others.

The analysis accuracy in comparison to R&D Carbon laboratory was 99 per cent, the statement added.

R&D Carbon concluded that the results from the round robin demonstrate that the precision figures of the methods used in the routing quality control of carbon anodes are good for the needs of the aluminium industry, it stated.

A celebration was held at the Alba Laboratory to mark the achievement in the presence of chief operations officer Isa Al Ansari.

The event was also attended by chief marketing officer Jean Baptiste Lucas; Metallurgy, Laboratory & Customer Technical Support manager Abdulla Habib Ahmed Ali; the senior manager (Process Control & Development) Avinash Mittal, the Metallurgy & Customer Technical Assistance manager Garry Martin; acting manager Process Control & Development Hugo Levesque and members of the laboratory staff.

On the global accolade, Ahmed Ali said: “Alba remains firmly committed to produce high-grade aluminium products that demonstrate the highest levels of purity. The results of this international exercise conducted by R&D Carbon prove that we are certainly moving in the right track as far as ensuring that our production process adheres to the highest quality standards possible.”

Alba, he stated, had a dedicated carbon plant that supports the five pot lines that together enable Alba to produce over 890,000 metric tonnes of high-grade aluminium products.

Its portfolio of products include standard and T-ingots, extrusion billets, rolling slab, properzi ingots, and molten aluminium, he added.-TradeArabia News Service
