ABB opens new workshop in Bahrain

Manama, April 28, 2014

Dubai-based ABB Industries has opened a new workshop at Arab Shipbuilding and Repair Yard (Asry) in Bahrain, providing certified turbocharger expertise, global warranties, and onsite access to its worldwide network.

ABB Industries is a division of ABB Turbocharging, a leader in the manufacturing and maintenance of turbochargers for two-stroke and four-stroke engines for various types of vessels.

The new workshop will provide international factory warranties and onsite accessibility for Asry customers to ABB's worldwide service network, reported the Gulf Daily News, our sister publication.

The opening was attended by Asry chief executive Nils Kristian Berge and technical resources and business development general manager Magdy Mustafa along with ABB local business unit manager and area manager for Mena John Fyfe, regional business development manager Shibu Rajamani and ABB UAE and Qatar head of operations and country insurance risk manager Nandagopal K and other officials.

Berge has described it as a "landmark agreement by which Asry can expand its provision of quality services to its global customers."

"The agreement will promote sharing of mutual benefits to enhance the business of both companies, ensure quick turbocharger service to customers in the yard, and offer one-stop ABB turbocharger solutions at Asry," he added.

Fyfe said "as per the agreement, ABB Turbocharging will provide international factory warranties to all service jobs done at Asry, including dedicated machines and engineers at a workstation within the shipyard facility."

"Asry will also benefit from the worldwide accessibility, rapid response and cutting-edge expertise of ABB's service network, which comprises more than 100 service stations in over 50 countries," he added.

"Given the strategic importance of Asry to our mutual customers, this initiative provides onsite accessibility to key equipment required for the overhaul of turbochargers, thus allowing for quick turnaround times and onsite technical support round the clock," stated Fyfe.

Mustafa said under the scope of the agreement, ABB will be able to provide its services to the local market.

"This will positively contribute to the national income of the kingdom and provide training and job opportunities to Bahrainis on new types of specialised activities and skills.

"The agreement is mutually beneficial to both parties. Asry can make available the expertise and experience of ABB to its customers at affordable prices, and ABB is widening its global presence, have a dedicated service point in Asry, and have a new base in the kingdom to grow its business," he said.-TradeArabia News Service
