Intel tops ‘Best Corporate Citizens’ list

Cairo, March 10, 2008

Intel Corporation took the No 1 spot in this year’s “100 Best Corporate Citizens” list.

Released by CRO Magazine, the list has gained national recognition as an indicator of best practices in the area of corporate responsibility, said an official spokesman.

The list identifies companies that best combine business objectives with responsible practices across eight categories: environment, climate change, human rights, employee relations, corporate governance, lobbying, philanthropy and financial performance.

Rankings are based on research and analysis by IW Financial, and the companies are drawn predominantly from the Russell 1000 Index. Intel has been in the top 20 on the list since its inception 9 years ago.

Extending the company’s CSR efforts, various projects took place in Egypt such as the first Digital Village, Oseem, pilot project and donating two computer labs to a school in the village.

In addition, Intel donated Classmate PCs that were developed in Intel Platform Definition Center (PDC) in Egypt to students at Omar Ibn El Khatab School and a WiMax lab to Cairo University and another lab to the Information Technology Institute (ITI), part of the MCIT.

“Our responsibility is to endorse youth's minds and talents that will in return benefit their own generation in the future. With the right means youth can become self-directed learners and researchers, workers, and leaders,” said Intel general manager in Egypt, Levant and North Africa Dr Khaled Elamrawi.

As part of the company's ongoing drive to promote Arab talent and entrepreneurial skills, Intel has joined a growing movement Arab Science and Technological Foundation (ASTF) that kicked off in 2006.

During the second ASTF last December two Egyptian entrepreneurs were chosen as the final winners for providing best Arab Technology Business plans.

Intel’s approach to global citizenship includes an annual $100 million commitment to improving education around the world and a long-term commitment to sustainability in its operations and in its products.
