Intel plans key changes in Egypt operations

Cairo, July 19, 2009

Intel has announced major changes in its strategy for Egypt as part of the 'company's continuous drive for IT enablement and growth in the Arab world.'

The change comes as the company is up-leveling the Intel Middle East region in order to embrace new opportunities, said a company statement.

Under the new plan, the region will be split into Egypt separately, Levant and North African into two distinct regions; Egypt as a standalone sub-territory with Levant and North Africa as another separate sub-territory within the larger Middle East region, it added.

This will help the Egyptian team extend more dedicated support to local customers and augment the IT footprint in Levant and North Africa.

Intel Egypt has appointed Taha Khalifa as new country manager for Egypt, while Dr Khaled Elamrawi takes on the role of regional director for Enterprise Solutions in the Middle East. Mohamed Amer has been appointed country manager for the Levant and North Africa region, the statement added.

Previously, Khalifa was director of the Middle East, Turkey, and Africa World Ahead Program where he drove strategic initiatives and programs focusing on increased broadband penetration, WiMAX trials, 1:1 computing, Digital Health and government-assisted programs.

Taha had been at Intel for 15 years where he held senior engineering, marketing, and strategic planning positions in the US. His experience in driving growth in emerging markets through World Ahead and local industry enabling programs will pave the way for stronger growth in the Egyptian market.

During his three-year tenure as Intel Egypt, Levant & North Africa Country Manager, Dr Elamrawi and the Intel team have taken great strides to boost the local PC market and support the local industry, the statement added.

This included the establishment of the Platform Definition Centre currently delivering education solutions to the Europe, Mena region, enablement of local assembly and development programs, driving youth and education initiatives with the governments and pioneering into new growth markets including Libya and Algeria to help bridge the digital divide.

Khaled’s new role will focus primarily on growing Intel’s enterprise business in the Middle East.

Mohammed Amer has been managing the Intel distribution, sales and local assembly channels, retail and Intel multinational companies business in the Egypt, Levant & North Africa region for the past four years.

His vast regional sales and channel experience in both the reseller channel organization and market development management for the region at Intel will up-level activities in emerging markets including Algeria, Libya, Lebanon, Jordan, Tunisia and Morocco, the statement added.-TradeArabia News Service
