Zain, Batelco sponsor Umrah travellers

Manama, December 30, 2009

Zain Bahrain and Batelco, both leading providers of telecom services in Bahrain, have joined forces to sponsor 1000 Bahrainis from the five governorates travelling to Makkah to perform Umrah.

The pilgrimage is being organised on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the accession of His Majesty The King, Shaikh Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa.

Both companies have contributed BD50,000 ($132,600) each to cover the trip expenses of the large group of Bahrainis.

“By enabling 1000 citizens to complete the Umrah to Makkah, Zain Bahrain is participating in a project that reflects the Islamic ideals and the values of the Kingdom of Bahrain,” said Mohammed Zainalabedin, general manager of Zain Bahrain.

“It is also our way of extending our support to the community and we are happy to contribute to this cause,” he added.

He also noted that the project reflected the Zain corporate values of radiance, heart and belonging and underscored the company's pride in belonging to the corporate landscape of Bahrain.

Batelco group general manager media & government relations Ahmed Al Janahi said that Batelco is delighted to support such a worthy cause as sponsoring the Umrah pilgrimage for 1000 of Bahrain’s citizens, in cooperation with Zain.

“We strive to touch the lives all citizens of Bahrain through our sponsorship and donations programmes via contributions to health, education, sports and arts and cultural initiatives,” he said.
