Nawras starts fixed number portability service

Oman’s telecoms operator Nawras, a Qtel Group company, has announced plans to launch the first fixed number portability (FNP) service in the Sultanate.

With this service, business customers have the opportunity to keep their existing numbers when joining Nawras from another telecommunications operator, said a statement from the company.

The service can be used by any corporate customer usinga Primary Rate Interface (PRI), which is the standard service used by most medium and large enterprises for carrying multiple calls across a network.

Announcing the service, Adnan Zubaid Khan, the product manager for fixed voice and international data services at Nawras, said, "The launch of fixed number portability  is a major milestone for the telecommunications industry in Oman and an eagerly awaited development for the corporate sector."

"Like the previous introduction of MNP for mobile lines, this new service enables corporate customers with PRI services to transfer their current fixed-line numbers to Nawras, in order to start benefiting from our pleasingly different products and services," he noted.

Khan pointed out that the  FNP service for corporate customers with PRIs is the first step in a service that will expand over time to enable more corporate customers to join Nawras.

"Companies using FNP services will be assisted throughout the process to enable a smooth transition to Nawras. As they can conveniently continue to use their existing numbers there is noneed to inform customers and suppliers of different contact details or redoany marketing or corporate collateral," he added.-TradeArabia News Service
