Nawras in mobile messaging partnership deal

Muscat, December 1, 2012

Nawras, an integrated services telecommunications operator in Oman, has announced a strategic partnership with WhatsApp, a leading cross-platform mobile messaging service in the Sultanate.

WhatsApp is free to download for most smartphones and can be used on iPhone, BlackBerry, Android, Windows and Nokia handsets for communicating, sharing photographs and transferring files to any user with the same application, regardless of their operator or handset.

Nawras, a part of the Qatar Telecom Group, said the exclusive marketing agreement gives it an opportunity to introduce new services based on the extremely popular messaging platform. WhatsApp is already being enjoyed by more than one million customers in the Sultanate of Oman.

Martin Lyne, the chief marketing officer of Nawras said, “WhatsApp has quickly become a very popular alternative to SMS for messaging, allowingcustomers to communicate instantly with contacts across the world. With this cross platform reach we will introduce further choice and flexibility for Nawras customers using WhatsApp.”

"Today we have launched an exclusive weekly WhatsApp data plan which provides customers with 50 MB of WhatsApp data as well as 50 SMS for just 500 Baiza per week," he explained.

"We will also be launching a number of exclusive smartphone plans with increased data allowances as our innovation continues to enrich the daily lives of people in Oman," said Lyne.

"This is the same vision that has inspired the creators of WhatsApp to make an application that people love to use and together we can make communications easier, more versatile and always a rewarding experience,” he added.-TradeArabia News Service
