Batelco welcomes TRA assessment

Manama, November 12, 2013

Batelco has welcomed an assessment by Bahrain’s Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), which said that no telecom operator in the kingdom has significant market power (SMP) or dominance in the supply of mass-market broadband services.

“This is great news and a forward looking step which will facilitate us to provide more innovative and competitive services for our customers, having been regulated as a significant market power for so long,” said Batelco Bahrain chief executive Rashid Abdulla.

“We will continue to work in close cooperation with the TRA as we seek to convince the authority that Batelco should also no longer be considered as an SMP for business Broadband. The market is effectively competitive given the alternative internet access offers available by licensed operators, both over mobile and fixed (broadband and leased lines).

“Batelco being No.1 choice for the business sector is mainly due to quality of service levels and the ongoing investment commitment we make serving this sector. Regulatory relief of business broadband would encourage further investment in this vital sector of the economy,” Abdulla concluded. – TradeArabia News Service
