Ooredoo launches new wholesale entity

Doha, May 12, 2014

Ooredoo, a leading international communications company based in Qatar, has established the Ooredoo Global Services (OGS), which will serve as the group's wholesale arm.

OGS is participating in this year's International Telecoms Week (ITW), which will be held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, Chicago from may 11 to 14.

OGS now offers a single point of contact for wholesale carriers to access the company's 18 operating companies representing one of the largest Internet peering networks in the Middle East that is interconnected with more than 100 operators, including many of the largest in the world.

The company has appointed Yousuf Abdulla Al Kubaisi as the CEO of the new entity. He had been serving as Ooredoo Qatar's chief wholesale and international officer since 2012.

For more than 29 years, Al Kubaisi has held managerial roles across the company's international infrastructure, business services and regulatory units.

Group CEO Dr  Nasser Marafih said: "Launching Ooredoo Global Services is a natural evolution of our offering as the Mena region  continues to grow and demand for wholesale is rising in this region and across our markets in Southeast Asia."

"This new entity will allow our wholesale and carrier customers to benefit from a world-class network that serves as a global exchange for voice, capacity, data and roaming traffic. We are confident we can unleash hidden value through consolidation as we expand this service across our operating companies," he added.

The newly-appointed OGS chief Al Kubaisi said: "By creating this, we are building on the momentum that we have achieved for the wholesale operations at Ooredoo Qatar. We will aim to provide enhanced connectivity and the delivery of advanced business services for carriers across our operating companies through an integrated approach that will be more efficient and effective for our customers."

Ooredoo was recognized "Best Middle Eastern Wholesale Carrier" at the Global Carrier Awards in 2013 and at the Telecoms World Awards in 2012.-TradeArabia News Service
