Qatar to open toy testing lab

Doha, August 29, 2007

The Qatar General Organisation for Standards and Metrology will inaugurate its new lab for testing children’s toys after Ramadan.

“We have completed 80 per cent of the lab requirements, and are waiting for the most updated and modern equipment,” director Dr Mohamed Saif al-Kuwari was quoted as saying by Gulf Times.

Technicians are being trained to work in the new lab.

“We have withdrawn large quantities of toys from the local market for testing and results are expected within a few days,” said Dr Kuwari.

The official lauded the awareness of the traders who import toys for their voluntary co-operation.

The organisation has withdrawn five types of children’s toys from the markets. Some other samples, collected randomly, have been sent for tests at the labs of the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture as well as at one belonging to the Dubai Municipality, according to Arrayah.
