Bapco union chief sacked

Manama, April 3, 2011

Bapco Trade Union president Abdul Ghaffar Abdul Hussain has been sacked for instigating employees to take part in a general strike.

The company is now preparing to take legal action against the trade union for calling for the strike, driving a wedge between workers and causing the company to incur losses, reports our sister paper Akhbar Al Khaleej.

Meanwhile, the Kingdom's Shi'ite workers were venting their fury on online forums over trade union bosses for their policies during the recent unrest.

Many of them were now demanding that the president and members of the general-secretariat of the General Federation of Bahrain Trade Unions resign, the report added.-TradeArabia News Service
