Bahrain recalls Syria envoy

Manama, August 9, 2011

Bahrain has recalled its ambassador to Syria for consultations, Foreign Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa said yesterday (August 8).

"We decided to summon our ambassador to Syria for consultation and we stress the importance of acting wisely," he said in a message on Twitter.

The move follows a similar one by Kuwait and Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah recalled his ambassador and called for an end to the Syrian government's bloody crackdown on a near five-month uprising.

Meanwhile, Syrian President Bashar Al Assad replaced Defence Minister General Ali Habib with the army chief of staff General Dawoud Rajha even as the military renewed its assault on Deir El Zour, a day after 42 people were killed there. – TradeArabia News Service
