Bahrainis to rally in support of Syrians

Manama, October 13, 2011

A rallyin support of the Syrian people will take place in Bahrain tomorrow (October 14), with organisers also announcing a boycott of Iranian, Russian and Chinese products.

The authorised gathering is being organised by Al Asala parliamentary bloc after Friday prayers at Al Mahzoora Avenue, in Buhair, near the Shaikhan Al Farsi Mosque.

It is also spearheading a boycott of Russian and Chinese products, after both countries used their veto in the United Nations to block action against the Syrian government.

The boycott of Iranian goods is in response to Tehran's meddling in the region, as well as its affiliate Lebanese group Hizbollah.

Al Asala is also calling on the GCC, Arab League and the Organisation of the Islamic Conference to punish the Syrian regime in a bid to end the killing.

Bloc members want the region's powers to intervene in Syria, believing that would also have major consequences for Israel - which it said was supported by Syria.

"The Syrians are the victims of injustice and everyone knows about the crimes of the regime that have left children, women and elderly dead," said Al Asala MP Abdulhaleem Murad.

"We have a duty as Muslims and that's boycotting Russian and Chinese products after both nations vetoed action against the Syrian regime.

"Iran is another evil state that is trying to take over the Arab world and our job is to stop them because they are helping the Syrian regime continue its operations against its people."

Meanwhile, the bloc condemned the attack on Tuesday by two masked men on parliament assistant secretary-general for sessions and committees and Akhbar Al Khaleej newspaper columnist Jamal Zuwayyed.

It also condemned threatening phone calls and e-mails to Al Watan newspaper journalist Huda Hazeem. – TradeArabia News Service
