Emirati women can pass nationality to children

Abu Dhabi, November 30, 2011

UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al-Nahayan has issued a decree which will allow children of Emirati women married to foreigners to apply for citizenship once they turned 18.

The decree said that the "children of women citizens married to foreigners should be treated as citizens," Wam news agency reported.

Mariam Al Roumi, Minister of Social Affairs, welcomed the decree.
