Bahrain vows action to end violations

Manama, September 10, 2012

Bahrain's government has vowed to take action to put an end to violations, incitement and calls to break the law in the kingdom and to take steps to maintain security and stability.

Chairing the weekly Cabinet meeting at Gudaibiya Palace, Deputy Premier Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa affirmed the government's resolve to enforce law and order.

"No party can be allowed to continue defying the law and disrupting national and people's interests," he said.

The session affirmed that national interests should prevail above all other considerations and narrow designs.

It hailed the directives of HRH the Premier during his meeting with business community last Saturday.

The session paid tribute to parliament for voicing a strong stance, rejecting unlicensed protests and warning against their detrimental repercussions on national economic interests.

Interior Minister Lieutenant-General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa briefed the session on last Friday's unlicensed march, highlighting its security and economic repercussions.

The Cabinet yesterday earmarked BD1.2 million for paying the second part of compensation for deaths during the unrest. The measure follows royal directives, in line with recommendations of the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry regarding the civil settlement. Those who refuse compensation still reserve the right to refer their cases to civil courts. This phase will have covered the 35 deaths mentioned in the report.

Meanwhile, the kingdom's business community yesterday paid tribute to HRH the Premier for his support.

They backed all steps and measures ordered by the Premier to counter crisis-mongering, terror, violence and attempts to sow chaos and social divisions.

The Premier received a cable of thanks from Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) chairman Dr Essam Fakhro.

On behalf of the business community, Dr Fakhro hailed the Premier's directives to enforce the law, protect public order and deter attempts to harm economic interests and undermine achievements.

The Chamber also threw its weight behind the Premier's directives to protect social security and civic peace, preserve economic growth momentum and cement national unity.

"The business community stands united as a solid bulwark to foil any parties plotting to sabotage the national economy, derail the development and reform march and roll-back hard-won achievements", Dr Fakhro said. - TradeArabia News Service
