Bahrain supports Syrian refugees

Bahrain has presented $1.3 million in aid to Syrians living in refugee camps in Turkey after fleeing the civil war in their country.

The amount was presented as Royal Charity Organisation (RCO) board of trustees chairman Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa received the Turkish Premier's representative Muhammet Donmez in presence of UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) director in Turkey Carol Bojer, said a report in our sister publication the Gulf Daily News.

RCO secretary-general Dr Mustafa Al Sayed and Bahrain's Ambassador to Turkey Ibrahim Yusuf were present.

Shaikh Nasser thanked His Majesty King Hamad, RCO Honorary President, for his humanitarian initiatives to help the needy and provide relief to the afflicted.

He said that the King had sent the aid out of brotherly and humanitarian relations with the Syrian people and praised the support of the government under the leadership of His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa as well as the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander.

Shaikh Nasser said that His Majesty's directives were also the result of distinctive brotherly relations which bond Bahrain and Turkey, pointing out that Bahraini aid was for those who fled from Syria to Turkey due to the situation in their country.

The aid includes contributing to the building of a field hospital for the refugees.

It was the completion of support provided to Syrian refugees in Jordan, where a scientific complex which includes four elementary and intermediate schools is being opened in Zaatari camp.

Donmez thanked His Majesty for the services and humanitarian support provided by Bahrain's leadership and its people, reflecting the kind image of Bahrain.

He praised the efforts of Shaikh Nasser in supporting the humanitarian cause and his leadership of the RCO.

The UNHCR director in Turkey hailed the initiatives of His Majesty and the efforts of the RCO in establishing development projects to relieve the suffering of the Syrian refugees and supporting countries facing disasters. – TradeArabia News Service
