Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation (Gaca) will impose penalties on carriers that breach rules and regulations, a report said.

According to the new instructions issued to carriers that fly Haj pilgrims, Gaca will hold a plane at the airport if it doesn’t have a prior permit to transport pilgrims, said a report in Arab News.

Gaca will also ground aircraft that lack permits, the report added.

Carriers that do not arrive in or leave Saudi Arabia within a specified time schedule will be fined SR10,000 ($2,666) for each landing plane and SR15,000 for each departing.

Gaca also said that the airline should pay SR10,000 for each pilgrim on board a plane that arrives after the defined date of pilgrims’ arrival.

Planes departing without a licence will pay a fine of at least SR20,000, while anyone who assists a pilgrims’ flight to depart without completing the necessary procedures will be fined up to SR50,000, the report said.

Gaca further said that pilgrim airline carriers should present a log, the failure of which will cause them to face a minimum fine of SR20,000.
