No pardon for terror convicts: Bahrain

Manama, February 17, 2014

Bahrain has declared categorically that convicted terrorists and saboteurs who have blood on their hands will never be granted pardon.

"Court verdicts will never be reconsidered, bypassed or circumvented under any pretext as they reflect people's will," the Cabinet said in a statement, according to a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.

Chaired by His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, the weekly session strongly condemned the terror blast which left an on-duty policeman dead and others injured at Dair.

Present was His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Premier.

The session slammed the spate of terror and sabotage, describing the terrorist campaign as unacceptable and alien to peace-loving Bahrainis.

It vowed to take legal action against the murderers as well as instigators who are harbouring terrorists and saboteurs and condoning their heinous acts.

In a statement yesterday, the government announced that it would continue combating terror.

Authorities concerned were directed to enforce the law against offenders and maintain security and stability.

The Cabinet also noted a statement made by His Majesty King Hamad on the occasion of the anniversary of the National Action Charter. The Premier confirmed that the Charter has laid a strong foundation of freedom, justice and reform..

Meanwhile, the Premier has vowed to track down the killers of the policeman in Dair and bring them to justice.

He directed officials to beef up security and confront saboteurs and terrorists who are intent on subverting Bahrain's security and stability.

"Killing innocent people, disrupting people's interests, destroying properties and perpetrating acts of violence and terror have never been a civilised way of expression," he said.

The Premier was speaking as he offered condolences to the family of martyr of duty Abdulwaheed Sayyed Mohammed, who was killed in a terror explosion.

He urged all citizens to unite to confront terror and foil subversive designs targeting the country.

"It is incumbent on us all today to stand united and face terror and violence," he said.

The Premier vowed to exert all efforts to protect Bahrain.

"What is happening will only make us stronger and more committed than ever to national pillars and unity.

He paid tribute to the security forces for their dedication in defending the nation, saying that their sacrifices will remain engraved in Bahrainis' memory.
