Bahrain to build homes for Filipino typhoon victims

Manila, February 22, 2014

Bahrain will build two vocational training centres and a 500-home residential complex for the victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines, said a report.

An agreement on Bahrain's initiative, which follows directives from His Majesty King Hamad, was signed in Subic City yesterday in the presence of Royal Charity Organisation chairman Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa and Philippines Vice-President Jejomar Binay, reported the Gulf Daily News, our sister publication.

More than 5,000 people died when the exceptionally powerful tropical cyclone devastated portions of Southeast Asia, particularly the Philippines, in November last year.

Shaikh Nasser expressed his pride in implementing His Majesty's humanitarian initiatives and development projects for the benefit of the people of the Philippines.

The vocational training centres are to be named Bahrain.

Philippines President Benigno Aquino received Shaikh Nasser in the presence of Supreme Council for Youth and Sport first deputy chairman and Bahrain Athletics Association president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa. They reviewed bilateral ties and issues of mutual interest.-TradeArabia News Service
