Qatari MPs reacted with outrage yesterday (March 6) after the country was accused of being the source of all terrorism in the Arab world.

Egyptian MP Dr Mohammed El Buainain sparked the row when he made the claims during a session of the Arab Parliament taking place in Bahrain, reported the Gulf Daily News, our sister publication.

"The Islamic Brotherhood is still breathing because it has Qatar supporting its terrorist activities financially and through its media - Qatar is the source of all terrorism in the Arab world," he said.

His comments caused Qatari MPs to jump up from their seats and they repeatedly shouted at him to "shut up".

However, Dr El Buainain refused to be silenced and shouted: "Qatar is destroying my country by hosting Islamic Brotherhood terrorists and giving them coverage in their Al Jazeera network".

"I am speaking the truth in the Arab chamber of truth."

Bahrain's parliament second vice-chairman Shaikh Adel Al Ma'awada also waded into the row but shouted at Dr El Buainain that it was an internal GCC matter that member states were dealing with.

First Deputy Speaker Dr Samia Hassan Sied Ahmed, from Sudan, struggled to regain control of the chamber and she threatened to end the session prematurely.

Dr Ahmed ordered all comments made during the argument be erased from the session's records, saying Dr El Buainain's remarks were "disrespectful".

Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Bahrain withdrew their ambassadors from Qatar on Wednesday accusing it of failing to honour a GCC agreement not to back anyone who threatens regional stability.

Saudi Arabia and the UAE are angry about Qatar's so-called support of the Muslim Brotherhood.

They also resent the way Doha has sheltered influential Brotherhood cleric Yusuf Qaradawi and given him regular airtime on its pan-Arab satellite television channel Al Jazeera.
